Via motorway to Split

The new motorway from Zagreb to Split has been completed. This hasn’t only reducted the distance but had made the journey considerably quicker, more comfortable and safer.

From Germany to Austria it is advisable:

• to use the Tauern motorway and proceed through the tunnel of the Karawanke and then via Ljubljana and Zagreb

• or to go via Graz, then Maribor and proceed then towards Zagreb.

From Zagreb the motorway goes via Karlovac and then to Split which is signposted.

From Split by car ferry on to the island of Hvar

In Split you can take the car ferry to Stari Grad (which is on the island of Hvar)

On the island, from Stari Grad to Zavala

From Stari Grad you head towards Jelsa and then take a right turning to Pitve. Drive through Pitve and go through the tunnel on to the south side of the island of Hvar. On the way down take a left turning towards Zavala.

The remaining 500m in Zavala to Nautilus-Bay

Approximately 50m after the sign of Zavala is a very tight right turning which has to be taken in two turns. Just follow this road further 300m, ignore the first left turning and proceed further 200m down the road. At the crossing drive straight over on to a natural path which leads another 30m to Nautilus-Bay.
